Care Instructions
Hydroseeding can result in a lush, easy-maintenance yard with the correct care after installation. Following the care instructions provided is essential to the ideal grass health.
Growth should be noticeable 5-10 days after hydroseeding and you can expect a full, usable lawn in about 3-5 weeks. During this time it is imperative to keep traffic on the seeded area to a minimum (including people and pets) while providing adequate moisture as detailed below.
Week 1
Ensure all seeded areas remain adequately moist by watering 2 to 3 times a day, depending on the weather. Pay special attention to areas of full sunlight, as they will dry out faster than shaded areas. Do not water to the point that you create puddles or washouts in your yard which will adversely affect the growing process.
The goal of the germination period is to keep the seed and ground moist to enable growth and establishment of the root system. A loss in moisture can have a negative impact on final results.
Week 2
Your watering program will continue through the second week. You should begin to see seedlings emerge by the end of the second week. It is still very important to keep the top 2 inches of soil moist to promote even growth and emergence of the seedlings.
It is important to limit foot traffic and keep pets off of the lawn area during this time.
Week 3
Three weeks after seeding, you will see your new lawn really take shape. Any areas where growth is uneven can be addressed at this time by applying additional water during the day.
Continue watering your lawn, but at less frequent intervals. Your watering schedule can be once per day at this stage depending on daytime temperatures.
Week 4
This is the end of the germination period of your new lawn. If you notice the grass is not a dark green color you may need to apply a nitrogen fertilizer to increase nutrient content and promote growth. At this time, your grass should be 3 or more inches high and ready for its first mowing. It is very important to use sharp blades for a great cut on your new tender lawn. We recommend not cutting more than 1/3 of the height of the grass at one time.
Further Care
Your new turf should be fully established 30-45 days after hydroseeding. The germination rate depends on the variety of grass planted in your custom seed mix. As you continue to care for and mow your lawn the grass will mature and become thicker until it is fully rooted and established. This process can take up to one year. It is important to not apply any type of weed killer or pre-emergence herbicides before your fourth mowing, as this may damage or kill the new seedlings.
